Last modified: October 13 2005 11:39 am

This guide assumes your e-mail account is already setup and working in Eudora 5.1 / 5.2. If you have not already setup your account please click here for the POP3 and IMAP guides.

To begin open Eudora

1)Click on 'Special' in the menu bar
2)Select 'Settings...' from the drop-down list

3)Click 'Sending Mail'
4)Tick the 'Allow authorization' checkbox

5)Click 'SSL' (you may have to scroll down to find it)
6)Click the SSL for SMTP double-arrows, and
7)Put a dot beside the 'Required (TLS)' option
8)Click [OK]

The next step is to get Eudora to use/install the Certificate

Setting up Eudora to use the certificate

For Eudora to use the certificate you will need to send a simple test e-mail to yourself. This process is necessary and will cause the test mail to fail. This is normal and always occurs the first time you use Secure SMTP.

1)Send a test mail to yourself. Address the e-mail to yourself, put 'Test' in the subject, and click the [Send] button

2)After the message has been sent, Eudora will ask you if you would like to add the certificate to your system keychain. You should click 'Open'

3)Tick the 'Add to keychain' option
4)Click the double-arrows, and
5)select 'Always trust' from the drop-down list
6)Click the [OK] button

7)You will be shown a copy of the certificate (as above). Click the 'Done' button to continue.
8)Open your Outbox. You should see the test message with a 'Q' in the 'Status' area. Double-click the subject of the message to reopen it, then click the [Send] button again. The message should now send without error.

Eudora is now setup to send e-mail through SSL
